A new initiative of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano that enriches the offer of the Grande Museo del Duomo during the Expo Milano 2015 semester. A voyage between Art and Faith to offer to the millions of worshippers and visitors coming to the Cathedral the chance to live the emotion of Contemporary Art under the sign of the Madonnina, fully entering the list of the Cultural Activities.
In fact, many are the initiatives promoted by the Veneranda Fabbrica on the occasion of Expo, also concerning artistic exhibitions. From the exhibition of Contemporary Art, for the first time in the breathtaking frame of the Duomo Terraces, on which some sculptures by Tony Cragg are placed (the exhibition was inaugurated on the last 16th April and it will be open until the conclusion of Expo on the 31st October), to the beautiful exhibition Nicola e Giovanni Pisano. The origin of modern sculpture, promoted by Regione Lombardia and housed in San Gottardo in Corte Church, up to the arrival from Paris of an artwork created by Kathy Toma, next September. Sure the Cathedral and its extraordinary heritage of Art and Faith have never been that open to the dialogue with artistic expressions, from the splendour of the ancient to the energy of contemporary times.
Opening the doors of the Cathedral to the millions of worshippers and visitors, the Veneranda Fabbrica has chosen art as the privileged way to express present time.
The Board of the Fabbrica, considering important to promote a cooperation with ecclesiastic museums on the territory and, this way, following the suggestions of the Archbishop of Milan Cardinal Angelo Scola, decided to follow this path with the set up of the exhibition Images of the XX century. Homage to the Madonnina, promoted in cooperation with the GASC-Galleria d’Arte Sacra dei Contemporanei in Villa Clerici. The exhibition will open to the public and has been inaugurated on Monday 10th August 2015 at 18.30 in the Sala Gian Galeazzo Visconti at the Grande Museo del Duomo di Milano (Palazzo Reale – Piazza del Duomo, 12), with speeches by the President of the Veneranda Fabbrica Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo and Don Carlo Azzimonti, who has presented the initiative for the Galleria d’Arte Sacra dei Contemporanei.
The exhibition will be open until the 31st October 2015.
The exhibition, set up inside the Sala Gian Galeazzo Visconti in the Grande Museo del Duomo, recently opened, will display some of the most significant artworks dedicated to the Virgin from the Galleria d’Arte Sacra dei Contemporanei, from the Assunta by Eugenio Scorzelli to the Annunciazione by Enrico Manfrini, from the Assunta by Francesco Messina to the Madonna con Bambino by Italo Peresson, on a drawing by Trento Longaretti. A path that makes possible to admire those artworks dedicated to Mary through the eyes of contemporary artists, immersed in an ever-changing world.
