The Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo participates in the World Humanitarian Day in Expo

On the 19th August at 11.00 the symbolic distribution of the "Bread of Hope" at the presence of the President, Mons. Borgonovo. In the afternoon, the great parade on the Decumano

On the occasion of the World Humanitarian Day, organised on Wednesday 19th August 2015 by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the World Food Programme and the UN Expo Milano 2015 The Zero Hunger Challenge. United for a Sustainable World, the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano joins the celebrations taking place on the World Fair site.

Not only the United Nations, but also Expo Milano 2015 so celebrates the World Humanitarian Day. An anniversary instituted to remember the bombardment  of the UN branch in Baghdad on the 19th August 2008: an important occasion to focus the attention on humanitarian needs, on the importance of international cooperation in the name of dialogue and to remember all the peace workers who lost their life doing their job in extremely difficult conditions in refugee camps, on war areas or in places hit by natural disasters.

In particular, the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano participates in the Day with the distribution of the "Bread of Hope", a symbol of solidarity, rest, nourishment for the body, and not only.

Since the 8th of May, the distribution of the "Bread of Hope" takes place every Friday at 12.00 at the Veneranda Fabbrica Pavilion in Expo and, since some weeks, the distribution of the Bread at 18.00 in Piazza Duomo has been entrusted at the organisations committed to the help of refugees in Milan Central Station.

The symbology behind bread is immense, and the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano has brought within itself over the centuries this sensibility and communication, offering today a new chance to reflect about the topic of food and peace. In fact, through the tradition of distributing the “bread of St. Lucy”, protector of stone cutters, to those who worked for the Duomo, the Veneranda Fabbrica has been expressing over the centuries a great value of civil life in any time: share to multiply.

On the occasion of the World Humanitarian Day, on the 19th August, there will be two particular moments:

- at 11.00, the President Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo will be at the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo Pavilion for a special symbolic distribution of the "Bread of Hope", welcoming the Staff Representative Organizer Partner of Humanitarian Day at Expo (WFP, OCHA, Switzerland);

-  at 15.15, the Veneranda Fabbrica will take part into the great Parade on the Decumano, scheduled for the World Humanitarian Day, giving as a gift the same "Bread of Hope" that every Friday is distributed as an act of solidarity, sharing and hope for the future.

The initiative of the bread of hope is realised thanks to the sensibility proved by the historic company Maria Marinoni telling this sign of peace, available from the very beginning to support the project of the Veneranda Fabbrica, sharing the same goals. Always careful about customers’ needs and about the evolution of daily life, Marinoni has caught today the challenge of Expo 2015.

The Chiosco Gourmet Maria Marinoni is located inside Expo (N 24) with a laboratory provided with an oven, where it is always possible to taste crunchy and fresh bread with a wide range of bakery products, sweet and savory from Italian tradition.
