October 5th marks the beginning of the “Month of Music”: five concerts to celebrate the great sound of the Duomo

The most important dates include 12th October with the Cathedral Choir and 24th October with the “Missa Se la face ay pale” by Guillaume Dufay

Milan Cathedral
Cathedral Museum / Church of San Gottardo in Corte
5th to 26th October 2017

The heart of the city, a monument to Milanese industriousness and the greatness of humble people, a blend of architectural harmony and daring  verticality, a great marble path stretching towards infinity, going beyond time and overcoming all barriers. This is Milan Cathedral.

Inside these walls, for centuries, the prayers, joys, sufferings and desires of Milan and its people have stratified day after dayEmotions which for over half a millennium have been expressed in the majestic sound of the Cathedral Organ, the biggest in Italy, consisting of over 15,000 pipes, and in the purity of the voices of the boy choristers of the Cathedral Choir, the oldest cultural institution in the city, established in 1402.

For the 630th anniversary of the issue of its first statute, going back to16th October 1387, Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo dedicates the “Month of Music”, the traditional series of October concerts in the Cathedral, to the sounds that made the Duomo great.

With the voices of the Cathedral Choir, the majesty of the Great Organ and the evocative atmospheres of Guillaume Dufay (for an event promoted in conjunction with the Civica Scuola di Musica “Claudio Abbado”), the Cathedral once again confirms its role as a domus, offering the public an opportunity to admire its beauty: five concerts, from 5th to 26th October 2017, in the Duomo, and an exclusive event with limited seats in the splendid Church of San Gottardo in Corte.

And there is more. As from 11th November 2017, every second Saturday of the month, from 4.30 p.m. to 5.15 p.m., the Cathedral organist Emanuele Carlo Vianelli, the deputy organist Alessandro La Ciacera and numerous guest organists will play the Cathedral organ in a series of performances entitled “Organ Vespers”. More music, more infinite beauty, extending the “Month of Music”.
