Friday of Lent

In the Ambrosian Rite, the Fridays of Lent are aliturgical days, in which Holy Communion is not celebrated. This peculiarity is a sign of a more deeply-felt participation in the Lord's Passion and of a more intense expectation of the Sunday Eucharist.Alongside the pious exercise of the Via Crucis, community celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours and a longer reading of the Word of God are offered. The first Friday of Lent and Good Friday are days of fasting, in addition to abstinence from meat: all adults up to the age of 60 years are required to fast, while all those over the age of 14 are required to abstain from eating meat.
