A two stages/times photographic exhibition designed to combine the ancient with the modern, joining the testimonies and beauty of Milan of yesteryear and the extraordinary energy of the Duomo today. Identities and emotions intermingle in an exhibition designed especially to pay tribute to the people of Milan and their path in history, seen from the perspective of those who have tirelessly continued to preserve the Cathedral for seven centuries, eager to hand it down to the new generations, in the name of a population: the Veneranda Fabbrica.

On Thursday 24 November at 2.00 pm, “Il Duomo si racconta” ("The Duomo tells its story") had opened to the public. The exhibition, staged with the sponsorship of the Archdioceses of Milan, the Lombardy Region, National Geographic Italia and Parallelozero, as part of the events scheduled for ExpoinCittà thanks to the collaboration with the Municipality of Milan, is entirely curated by the Scientific Committee of the Grande Museo del Duomo of Milan. The objective is to accompany the public as they discover the real cathedral in a collection of images which will remain open until 28 February 2017, hosted in the beautiful halls of the Archive of the Veneranda Fabbrica and the San Gottardo in Corte Palatine Chapel of Palazzo Reale.

After the inauguration of the restoration held on 30 May 2016 in the presence of Minister Franceschini, the Archive of the Veneranda Fabbrica had confirmed its will to open itself up to the city. The exhibition “A century of life around the Duomo” presents a selection of 28 ancient images captured between approximately 1860 and the 1970s, created using the different techiques offered over time by the progress of photographic art. The exhibition is testimony to the way in which the Fabbrica has always sought to create a dialogue with new technologies and brand new media in order to tell its story and share its treasures with the world.

The exhibition continues in the St. Gottardo in Corte Church, within the circuit of the Grande Museo del Duomo, in an itinerary that tells the story of the Fabbrica today and the infinite life of its Sites through the eyes of photo reporter Alessandro Gandolfi. Gandolfi works for the Parallelozero agency and is the author of an extremely successful report published in the July issue of National Geographic Italia.

A gift from the Fabbrica to the city on the run-up to Christmas, offering its people a chance to rediscover its innermost soul, and kicking off a series of events that is scheduled to continue.
