Milan and the world discover the Grande Museo del Duomo di Milano

During Expo 2015 important flows were recorded

An authentic treasure hides two steps away from the Milan Cathedral. It is the Grande Museo del Duomo di Milano, appreciated by tourists and visitors from all over the world during the Expo 2015 semester. In particular, from May to October 2015 about 215.750 visitors were counted. An extremely positive number, compared to that of the same semester 2014, 44.729.

A SUCCESS FOR MILANESE PEOPLE DURING EXPO. These data stand out in the context in which many of the most important museums of Milano have been among the favourite destinations during the World Fair. A positive flow of visitors that made the average number of admissions increase by 50%, equal to half a million of tickets more than the same period in 2014. Important in the promotion of Milanese museums, aimed at the creation of a network between cultural actors, also was the Musei Lombardia Milano Card, realised by Regione Lombardia in cooperation with Comune di Milano.

THE RE-DISCOVERY OF THE GRANDE MUSEO DEL DUOMO. Thanks to a cultural operation planned by the Veneranda Fabbrica, the Grande Museo del Duomo benefited from the inclusion in the itinerary reserved to the Cathedral’s visitors, with the introduction of a unique ticket that now allows the visit to the Cathedral, the Grande Museo and the Church of San Gottardo in Corte. The 2015 statistics have been appraised based on a survey carried out by the personnel of the Museum, on the flows coming from the Cathedral.

WHY VISITING THE MUSEUM. Two thousand square feet of exhibition space, twenty-seven halls, thirteen theme areas, hundreds of artworks including sculptures, paintings, jewellery, tapestries, liturgical objects and architecture models. The Museo del Duomo is a chronological story of the great symbol of the city, valuable token of the Duomo construction, displayed through an extremely charming setting up designed in 2013 by the architect Guido Canali.

AN HERITAGE ALL TO DISCOVER. More than six centuries of history untie inside the Museum, among many artworks in marble, manneristic and baroque terracotta models, a painting by the young Tintoretto, works by Giuseppe Perego – the creator of the Madonnina, of which are on display the sketches, the wooden model and the inner structure. The XX century is represented by the models of the façade doors, by medals and bronze artworks by Lucio Fontana. An heritage and a beauty not paraded but still to discover, mirror of the identity and of the dna of a great Milan.
