October, third edition of the "Month of Music" at the Duomo

From 4-25 October 2016, seven not-to-be-missed concerts in the Cathedral

Duomo di Milano
Grande Museo Del Duomo / Chiesa di San Gottardo in Corte

From 4-25 October 2016

The Month of Music is now in its third year.
For the entire month of October the Cathedral will represent itself musically through a vast array of voices and styles, always remaining true to the monument’s “harmonies”; a structure whose complex architecture is like an enormous musical score in which each element is a single note within an extraordinary composition. The Duomo’s harmony is such that if you remove even just one small fragment, the entire work loses its identity; it is a great unicum of united elements, an impressive treasure belonging to the Milanese people, who have given voice to these feelings through the nearly seven hundred year long journey of the Veneranda Fabbrica.

It is against this backdrop that, for the third consecutive year, “The Month of Music” will take place, a festival that in this edition will include seven concerts, scheduled from 4-25 October 2016, beginning with the voices of the Cathedral Choir and culminating with the majesty of the Great Organ played by Resident Organist Emanuele Carlo Vianelli (11 October) and French organist Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer-Choplin (18 October).

Of the concerts scheduled, two of the most important are a performance of Giovanni Paisiello's Passion of Jesus Christ, which will be performed on 13 October, and the highly requested return of the Celtic Harp Orchestra which, on 7 October, will have traditional Irish, Scottish, and English music, medieval holy music, and original works echoing among the naves. Lastly, closing the festival, on 25 October, Vice Organist of the Duomo, Alessandro La Ciacera, and Markus Stockhausen will perform a concert for organ and trumpet that showcases the musical technique of improvisation and which will introduce its audience to an entire cathedral of new and fascinating sounds.

This is an invitation, open to everyone, to come and listen to the musical energy of the Duomo.
