The six concerts scheduled will start on 4th October with a tribute to the 1900s and to the eighty years of the Great Organ of the Duomo: Emanuele Carlo Vianelli, the Cathedral Organist, will perform scores by Marco Enrico Bossi, Costante Adolfo Bossi, Galliera, Picchi and Somma.

On 9 October the event will continue with Uto Ughi and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Rome. The Maestro’s choice includes Sonata No. 3 in C major by Gioacchino Rossini (from the six sonate a quattro), Chaconne in G minor by Tomaso Antonio Vitali, Concerto n° 5 K219 for violin and orchestra in A major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Havanaise in E major op. 83 and Introduction et Rondo capriccioso op. 28 by Camille Saint Saens. The performance will close with Polonaise n° 1 in D major by Henryk Wieniawski.

The concert on 20 October that will be performed by the Music Chapel of the Duomo directed by Don Claudio Burgio, exceptionally with free admissions until all seats are taken, will celebrate a very important event, precisely the canonisation of Blessed Giovanni Battista Montini, Archbishop of Milan from 1955 to 1963. He later became Pope Paul VI, who will be declared saint by Pope Francis on 14 October 2018. This event, and the one on 8 November, which will be held in the exclusive setting of the Church of San Gottardo in Corte, Cappella Palatina di Palazzo Reale, will propose works from the extensive musical legacy of the Chapel, with compositions by its maestros from the 15th century to present day.

On 23 October, with a concert organised by the Carmina et Cantica Concert Association, the Ensemble da Camera Mo-Mus conducted by Stefano Seghedoni will perform Italian music of the 1900s: a refined presentation of compositions by Mascagni, Casagrande, Respighi, Refice and Maestro Seghedoni himself.

Finally, on 16 November, the “Month of Music” will draw to a close with the performance of the entire La Nativité du Seigneur by Olivier Messiaen, with Alessandro La Ciacera, second organist of the Duomo di Milano at the organ, and theological and musicological comments by Mons. Pierangelo Sequeri.

An invitation to discover the magnificent harmonies of the Duomo.
