An up-to-date organism with will support the work and activities of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano in its core task of promoting and enhancing the extraordinary historic-artistic patrimony enclosed within the Cathedral, the international symbol of Milan.
Made up of experts from complementary fields and with proven scientific and professional qualifications, the Scientific Committee of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano met with its new members and in its new role for the first time, thus establishing itself officially, on Monday, 19 March 2018, at the offices on Via Carlo Maria Martini.
This past 30 January the Veneranda Fabbrica's board of directors designated Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo, Archpriest of the Duomo and Director of the Cultural and Conservation Area, with the task of selecting the members of the Scientific Committee. The following individuals were selected: Prof. Gianfranco Maraniello, art historian and Director of MART - the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto; Prof. Mario Negri, Rector of IULM - the Free University of Languages and Communications of Milan; Prof. Massimo Negri, Director of the European Museum Academy; Dr. Elisa Mantia, art historian; and Prof. Roberto Ruozi, Professor Emeritus of "Luigi Bocconi" University where he served as Rector.
"Having moved past the initial period of 'apprenticeship', the Museo del Duomo must now grow, also for those already familiar with it and for the people of Milan themselves. The Scientific Committee's first task, within the broader scope of its members' expertise, will be, therefore, to enrich the Museum and the Duomo Complex with activities and initiatives like exhibits and new projects, stimulating an active participation that extends beyond the experience of the individual visit." These are the words of Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo.
The committee collaborates with the Director of the Cultural and Conservation Area in defining strategic approaches for the development of the Veneranda Fabbrica's cultural activities and, specifically, of activities related to the identity of the Museo del Duomo and its cultural and scientific mission, as well as the organisation's Archives-Library.
Among the committee's tasks are that of: enhancing and promoting the artistic patrimony of the Veneranda Fabbrica's collections through conferences, seminars, and cultural outreach programs; coordinating communication, promotion, publications, catalogues, didactic activities, and related events; identifying other national and international museums, organisations, and institutions with which to develop relationships.
