On 13 July, a special Thursday in the sign of music at Milan Duomo
The music that knows no boudaries comes to the Cathedral
A Thursday at Milan Duomo to the rhythm of great music
In fact, there are three artistic proposals inside the Cathedral and on the Terraces scheduled for 13 July 2023, promoted by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano. A day in which music will be the protagonist wrapping the Cathedral from noon until sunset.
THE CONTINUO ARTS SYMPHONIC CHORUS: FROM USA TO ITALY
At 12.30 pm. The first musical appointment at the Duomo is with the Continuo Arts Symphonic Chorus, the American formation belonging to the Continuo Arts Foundation.
With the commitment to supporting artistic paths and creating inclusive experiences for all age groups, anywhere in the world, the choir represents an intergenerational stage whose sounds will reach the Milanese Cathedral, on the occasion of the International Music Festival that, beyond Milan, will involve other cities such as Florence and Rome. Conducted by maestro Candace Wicke, 73 members of the formation, accompanied by the sound of a harp, a violin and a cello, will sing in the fascinating context of Milan Duomo for a special concert lasting about 50 minutes.
The formation will offer an articulated sacred musical program, in tune with contemporaneity, performing Dominus Vobiscum by Jacob Narverud (*1985), Canticle of Zechariah by Elaine Hagenberg (*1979), Splendor paternal gloriae by Elaine Hagenberg (*1979), The Great Hymns Medley by Elaine Hagenberg (*1979), Alleluia by Elaine Hagenberg (1979), The Lord is My Shepherd by John Rutter (*1945), Lux Aeterna from the Requiem by John Rutter (*1945) and Great is Thy Faithfulness with elab. Clydesdale (*1954).
The exhibition is free admission. Access will be possible from the facade of the Duomo, from the passage reserved for the prayers (far north gate, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele side), starting at 12.00.
The concert will be broadcast live on Duomo Milano Tv official YouTube channel.
AN AFTERNOON WITH THE STUDENTS OF FLORENCE CHORAL COURSE: SHORT CONCERT AND EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATIONA
At 5pm. The second short musical appointment of the day is with the Florence Choral Course, the prestigious international program of choral training lasting six days, located in the heart of Florence, directed by maestro Mark Spyropoulos, director of Vox Medicea.
Twenty-four aspiring professional singers, selected from all over the world, will embellish the aisles of the Cathedral with their voices. A masterclass that, this year, counts on the privilege of the presence of the English soprano, Emma Kirkny, a pioneer of ancient music, and of Maestro Director of the Cappella Musicale del Duomo di Milano Mons. Massimo Palombella.
The singers of the Florenze Choral Course will perform Con Umil Core Salutiamo Cantando (14th century lauda), Nuper Rosarum Flores by Guillaume Dufay (ca. 1397-1474), for the consecration of the Duomo di Firenze (1436), Confirma, Domine by Francesco Corteccia (1502-1571), Vidi Speciosam by Raphaella Aleotti (1575-1640) and Peccavi Super Numerum (16th century Anonymous).
At about 5.30, at the end of the songs, the performance of the Missa Æterna Christi Munera by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594) will follow, on the occasion of the Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Archpriest of the Duomo Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo.
Access will be free of charge and will be possible by entering the Cathedral from the Duomo façade, from the passage reserved for the prayers (far north gate, on Galleria Vittorio Emanuele side).
The concert and the celebration will be broadcast live streaming on Duomo Milano Tv official YouTube channel.
