“The interpreter has a duty, as in the parable of Luke the Evangelist:
“to whom much is given, much will be required”.
I feel I have been given a religious responsibility vis-à-vis the great works of the past
and I try to make them sound new in today’s world.
Rather than imposing my personality, I feel the need to impose my love of music,
to be able to offer people interpretations that are food for thought.
Musical analysis expresses one’s personal experience of God.”

The Cathedral School, chaired by Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo, Dean of Milan Cathedral, opens its fifth edition, the 2017-2018 cultural season, with an exceptional event thanks to the extraordinary presence of Maestro Daniele Gatti.

A leading figure on the international artistic scene, Maestro Daniele Gatti collaborates with the most important musical bodies and institutions worldwide, and is in constant demand to conduct the top symphony and opera orchestras.

Gatti’s standing as an interpreter, his talent, the way he uses the orchestra and the colour he infuses are well-known worldwide, also due to his charismatic personality, rigour, sensitivity and humanity and his profound attention to the relationship between music, interpretation and religiousness. Gatti believes that the interpreter has the duty to convey to the public the special gift he has received, its immensity and beauty, providing inspiration and ideas to reflect on, education and solace for the soul.

Gatti will share these emotions and reflections with the public of the School in a dialogue between art and faith,  explaining his original approach to music and interpretation, and his meticulous, creative and subjective study of the score, getting right inside the piece in search of timeless truth and depth.

The event, introduced and coordinated by Armando Torno, will be held on Monday 9th October 2017 at 6.30 p.m. at the Church of San Gottardo in Corte (Via Pecorari, 2 - Milan), with a welcome by Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo and extraordinary participation of Maestro Daniele Gatti, whose many prestigious international appointments include Chief Conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam and Artistic Advisor to the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
