2020 renews the “Organ Vespers”, the event at the Duomo

Saturday, 1 February 2020, at 4.30 pm, marks the first musical moment of the new year. In preparation for the celebration of the Sunday vigil mass held in the Cathedral at 5.30 pm, a moment of meditation in music is proposed with the reading of short excerpts from the Scriptures to underpin the listening process with a ”spiritual intonation”. Readings by the Archpriest of the Duomo, Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo.

The protagonist of this new event will be the First Organist of the Cathedral of Orléans, maestro Jean-Pierre Griveau, who will perform on the organ’s keyboards in the evening atmosphere. The programme includes compositions by Louis Vierne (Allegro dalla 2ème symphonie op. 20 and Allegro vivace dalla 1ère symphonie op. 14), Théodore Dubois (Toccata), Alexandre Guilmant (Ave Maria), Johann Sebastian Bach (Choral «Mit Fried und Freud fahr ich dahin» BWV 616 Orgelbuchlein), Olivier Messiaen («Dieu parmi nous» da «La Nativité»), and by Jean-Pierre Griveau himself (Introduction et Variations sur le nom de Cavaillé-Coll).

The faithful may enter freely, as usual, from the Extreme North Door (Piazza del Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II side).
