Veneranda Fabbrica offers exclusive tours to discover the enchanting mountain where it all started, with walks and itineraries to retrace the charming marble route and relive the great work of the Fabbrica.

The initiative is also possible thanks to the precious collaboration of the Municipality of Mergozzo.

Gian Galeazzo Visconti, the Lord of Milan, decided to replace the brick, originally intended for the construction of the Duomo in the initial project, with marble. For this purpose, on 24 October 1387, he ceded the Candoglia quarry to Veneranda Fabbrica and granted the free transportation of the marbles to Milan through waterways.

The narrow width of the vein of this marble makes its extraction difficult and expensive.

This difficulty, however, has never stopped the work of Veneranda Fabbrica, which still faces the great duty of preserving the Monument with responsibility, taking care of the cultivation and maintenance of the quarry thanks to the use of highly qualified staff and with the support of technologies.
