‘The heavens were opened and the voice of the Father said: ‘This is my Son, the Beloved: listen to him’’ (Gospel hymn) The Baptism of the Lord, already recalled – according to the common tradition of the Church of East and West – in the solemnity of the Epiphany, is recalled in a special way on this Sunday, which closes Christmas Time and opens the Time after the Epiphany. That of Jesus at the Jordan is a true ‘epiphany’ (manifestation), which reveals the meaning of his mission, and this year’s liturgy proposes its narration according to the Gospel of Luke.
