The solemnity of the Nativity of Mary, the “patronal feast” of the Cathedral, traditionally marks the resumption of all activities in the Diocese of Milan. The Ambrosian Church looks to the Virgin Mary as “hope and dawn of salvation for the whole world” (prayer after communion). The birth of a person is always a promising event; this was particularly true for Mary, the Mother of the Lord: her birth marked the dawn of the fullness of salvation history.
Since the beginning of the construction of the Cathedral, the Veneranda Fabbrica itself has entrusted itself to the maternal intercession of the Virgin Mary, who has protected the work since 1387.
You can follow the Pontifical Mass at 9:30 a.m., presided over by Archbishop Mario Delpini, and Vespers at 4:30 p.m. via live streaming on this website (www.duomomilano.it) from the Duomo Milano TV YouTube channel.
