Among the various series into which the wealth of documents kept in the Archives of the Veneranda Fabbrica is divided, the one called the "Chapter Ordinances", made up of more than 160 registers, is certainly of great interest and importance. These cover a very wide time span, from the fourteenth century to the present day, although unfortunately it is the first register in the seriesthat is missing. In fact, it was displayed to the public because of its importance during the International Exhibition of 1906 and was seriously damaged, together with other precious documents, in the fire which destroyed the pavilion of the Veneranda Fabbrica on that fatal occasion.

These registers are a precious testimony of the Fabbrica's wide-spread, concrete and constant action regarding the Duomo, in that they contain the transcripts of the minutes of the meeting of the Chapter, the body responsible for building the Cathedral and managing economic resources: these are functions which are very similar to those carried out today by the members of the Board and this is why the Chapter Ordinances register is still open, faithfully reflecting the infinite nature of the Veneranda Fabbrica of the Duomo di Milano.
