Milano Duomo, working towards the reopening to tourists
From 18 May, services with a congregation will restart
On 8 March 2020, in line with the provisions laid out in the Prime Minister's Decree published on the same day regarding the containment of Covid-19 and following subsequent clarifications from the competent authorities and the Prefecture of Milan, the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano suspended tourist access to the Historical Complex.
As per the Archdiocese of Milan's indications, the Duomo has always remained accessible for prayer. As provided in the agreement protocol of 7 May 2020 by the Italian Government and the Italian Episcopal Conference and as indicated by the Archdiocese of Milan, from 18th May 2020 services with a congregation will also take place in the Cathedral in accordance with the procedures indicated by these provisions and according to that which was established for the Duomo by the Metropolitan Chapter. For information, times, and access routes, updates will follow in the next few days in the "Liturgical Life" section.
In conformity with what was sanctioned in the recent and latest implementation provisions, consistent with the evolution of the situation and starting a new phase, the Veneranda Fabbrica is now working on and preparing the measures necessary to allow for the reopening of the Duomo and its Historical Complex to tourists in compliance with the rules envisioned, also in consideration of the characteristics of the Cathedral and of the many routes, entrances and services concerned, to offer safe and comfortable visiting experiences. With the completion of the implementation of these measures, further updates will follow regarding the date and methods of reopening to tourists, to be expected in the coming weeks.
During this period in which this activity has been partially suspended, Milan Duomo has continued to tell its story virtually through 360° images, offering the most beautiful concerts, precious insights into the Veneranda Fabbrica's Museum and Archive, and educational workshops to discover the secrets of the Cathedral. #IlDuomosiracconta ("The Duomo is recounted") through digital activities, all to be discovered at duomomilano.it and on the Duomo's official social networking channels.
