The term "donate" encompasses several different meanings: helping a loved one, supporting a good cause, offering one's skills to carry out new projects, and much more.
For us, donating means demonstrating love and closeness to Milan Duomo in the safeguarding of its over 600 years of history. A love that materialises in the works and the restoration of the Monument, essential for guaranteeing prayer and access to tourists in complete safety and for rediscovering the beauty of its priceless artistic treasures, which are the heritage of all.
GivingTuesday, the international day of giving, has thus become the perfect occasion to encourage support for the restoration of the Monument, in particular the "Together for the Madonnina of Milan Duomo" project on ForFunding, Banca Intesa's crowdfunding platform. The Main Spire is the one that holds the statue of the Holy Virgin, soaring 108 metres above the ground. That very Holy Virgin - the famous Madonnina - who, thanks to literature and folk songs, has entered the collective imagination as the symbol of religiousness and of the protection of the many citizens, worshippers and tourists who visit the Duomo.
The Main Spire restoration projects, in particular that of the Tiburio (Lantern) at the base, constitute the final effort of one of the most demanding worksites that the Veneranda Fabbrica has carried out in the last 15 years. The worksite, according to the current schedule, will continue for a further couple of years and in order to face and overcome this challenge too, the Fabbrica needs, as it always has throughout its history, the help and support of those who think of Milan and the Duomo as their second home.
