On Wednesday 5 April 2023 at 7:30pm, St. Matthew's Passion (Matthäuspassion) BWV 244 by Johann Sebastian Bach returns in Milan Duomo, performed by the instrumental and vocal Ensemble laBarocca of Milan and the Children's Choir of Milan directed by Ruben Jais.

Like every year at Easter time, the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo, in collaboration with Fondazione Orchestra Sinfonica (Symphonic Orchestra Foundation) and Coro Sinfonico di Milano Giuseppe Verdi (Giuseppe Verdi's Symphonic Choir of Milan), proposes the performance of the marvellous repertoire of Bach's Passions.

This event, a real must of the Milanese Easter playbill, is confirmed in the 2022/2023 Season, acquiring a particular symbolic meaning, in an historical moment troubled by the horrors of destruction: an invocation to peace, one year after the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine and in the imminence of the Easter Triduum.

For the occasion, the Pueri Cantores of the Musical Chapel of Milan Duomo (whose direction is entrusted to Monsignor Massimo Palombella) will accompany the Instrumental and Vocal Ensemble laBarocca of Milan. The Pueri Cantores are vocally prepared by M. Marta Guassardo, and will intervene at the beginning and at the end of the first part of this marvellous Bach page.

An international cast completes the ensembles on stage for the masterpiece by Eisenach's Genius, universally considered one of the greatest artistic expressions in the history of music: Bernhard Berchtold (Evangelist), Johannes Held (Jesus), Katja Stuber (Soprano), Martin Platz (Tenor), Nicholas Tamagna (Alto), Renato Dolcini (Baritone). Maria Teresa Tramontin is the Maestro of the Children's Choir, Luca Scaccabarozzi the Choirmaster. Conductor is M. Ruben Jais, founder of the Ensemble and General and Artistic Director of the Fondazione Orchestra Sinfonica and Coro Sinfonico di Milano Giuseppe Verdi.

An initiative made possible by the hospitality of the Duomo's Archpriest Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo along with Capitolo Metropolitano and the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo.

For this special occasion, the concert will also be available for streaming: for those who are unable to go to the Duomo, it will be possible to connect to Milan Duomo YouTube channel (Duomo Milano TV), also accessible from the website www.duomomilano.it.
