Organ Vespers, 23 February, with Alessio Corti
Compositions by César Franck, Olivier Messiaen and Jean Langlais
Saturday, 23 February 2019, at 4.30 pm, a new musical event at the Duomo with “Organ Vespers”.
In preparation for the Sunday vigil mass held in the Cathedral at 5.30 pm, a moment of meditation in music is proposed from 4.30 pm to 5.15 pm every second Saturday of the month, with the reading of short excerpts from the Scriptures to underpin the listening process with a ”spiritual intonation”. Readings will be by the Archpriest of the Duomo, Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo.
Alessio Corti, First Organist of the Church of Santa Maria Segreta, will be the exceptional protagonist and guest of this new event. He will perform compositions by César Franck, Olivier Messiaen and Jean Langlais on the organ’s keyboards during the vespers.
Alessio Corti attained a Degree in Piano with Lucia Romanini, in Organ and Organ Composition with Enzo Corti and in Harpsichord with Laura Alvini. He later studied with Lionel Rogg at the school of music ‘Conservatorio Superiore’ in Geneva, winning the “Prémier Prix de Virtuosité avec Distinction” and the “Prix Otto Barblan”. Winner of several International Competitions, he is the first organist of the Church of S. Maria Segreta in Milan. He has produced several recordings, including the Opera Omnia for Organ by J.S. Bach. Alessio Corti is regularly invited to play at prestigious European Festivals, and to be a member of the jury at international competitions. He participated in the projects for the new organs of both the Università Cattolica and the Basilica of S. Babila in Milan, and inaugurated them. In 2001 he was appointed Professor of Organ at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva, as successor of Lionel Rogg.
