The feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (8 September), is the Duomo’s “patronal feast” and traditionally it marks the resumption of all activities in the Diocese. The Ambrosian Church looks to the Virgin Mary as "hope and dawn of salvation for the whole world" (prayer after communion). A person's birth is always a promising event; it was especially so for Mary, the Mother of the Lord: her birth marked the dawn of the fullness of the history of salvation.
The Veneranda Fabbrica has entrusted itself to the maternal intercession of the Virgin, who has protected its work since 1387.
You can follow the pontifical mass at 9.30am, presided over by the Archbishop of Milan, mgr. Mario Delpini, live on television on digital terrestrial channel 195 and streaming on the Milan Diocese website (www.chiesadimilano.it).
