The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (8 September), the “patronal feast” of the Duomo, traditionally signals the restarting of all of the Diocese of Milan’s activities. The Ambrosian Church looks to the Virgin Mary as “the hope of the entire world and the dawn of salvation” (prayer following Communion). The birth of a person is always a promising event; it was especially so for Mary, Mother of God, whose birth signalled the dawn of the story of salvation.

The Veneranda Fabbrica, since the very beginning of the Cathedral’s construction, has entrusted itself to the maternal intercession of the Virgin Mary who, since 1387, has protected the work.

It is possible to follow the Pontifical at 9.30am, presided over by Monsignor Archbishop Mario Delpini, live on television on the digital terrestrial channel 195 and in streaming on the Diocese of Milan website (www.chiesadimilano.it).
