«The heavens opened and the voice of the Father said: "This is my Son, the beloved: listen to him"» (song to the Gospel). The Baptism of the Lord, already mentioned - according to the common tradition of the Eastern and Western Churches - on the Solemnity of the Epiphany, is recalled in a particular way on this Sunday, which closes the Christmas Season and opens the Time after the Epiphany.
That of Jesus in the Jordan is a true "epiphany" (manifestation), which reveals the meaning of his mission. This year's liturgy offers us the account from Matthew's Gospel, with the dialogue between Jesus and John the Baptist. Jesus asks to be baptised, so that the Father's plan may be realised, which passes through the path of filial obedience and solidarity with the fragile and sinful man. On the feast of the Baptism of Jesus we rediscover our own Baptism. As Jesus is the beloved Son of the Father, we know that we are beloved children too, reborn in the water and thanks to the Holy Spirit.
It is possible to follow “Organ Sounds” for Advent and the 5.30pm vigil celebration (Saturday, 7 January), the 9.30am eucharistic celebration and the 11am Chapter Mass (Sunday 8 January) in streaming on this Site (www.duomomilano.it) from the YouTube channel Duomo Milano Tv.
