The statue’s gaze is fixed and turned to the South. The warrior is dressed in armor and footwear and from the position of his hands on his hips he seems to be waiting for someone. This mysterious character is perhaps waiting like everyone else for the new arrival, from one of the many entrances to the city. Milan is also this: waiting, like in a station, for the train that will pass, for the one to take at all costs, for the one that will bring the person we are waiting for, or for the one that perhaps will not bring them at all. We wear armor to defend ourselves from the unexpected events of the soul, but we cannot help but meet tomorrow, because that is where there are new stories to live.
Tales of the statue in Dome’s building site:
There is no news of the original statue at the moment. The one that can be admired walking on the central terrace of the Duomo is in fact a reproduction made by the sculptor Arturo Malerba in the first half of the 20th century.
