ST. MARIUS

19 JanuarySouth side Spire-G20
Saint protector of: San Marino republic, stonecutters

Following a legendary passio of the sixth century, Mario left his home country, Persia, around the third century, to then go to Rome with his family to worship the relics of the martyrs, common habits between the believers at the time. At Rome Mario associates himself to priest John, with him he takes care of the burial of Diocleaziano’s persecution victims, that were left in open fields. This work could not be left unseen, therefore Mario and his family were discovered, arrested and brought to court, where they refused to reject their faith and were condemned to beheading. The bodies were taken by a roman matron and buried in her agricultural belonging. Their relics had complicated fates: some were brought to Rome and part of them were donated to Carlo Magno’s biographer, that donated them to a monastery, customary behavior at that time.

The tales of the statue in Dome’s building site:

The statue placed on top of the G20 spire was realized at half 900. But nothing is known about the sculptor, or about the tales of the statue inside the Dome’s building site during the years.
