Alberto Sala

Born in Monza in 1974, he completed his musical studies at the Pontifical Ambrosian Institute of Sacred Music in Milan, obtaining the Magistero in Gregorian Chant; at the G. Cantelli State Conservatory of Music (ISSM) in Novara, he earned Second-Level Academic Diplomas in Organ – Interpretative Track – and in Sacred Music, both with highest honors, praise, and special mention. At the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome, he completed the Post Gradum in Organ – specialization in Organ Improvisation – under the guidance of Prof. P. T. Flury.
He also attended advanced training courses and masterclasses with Maestros A. Sacchetti, G. Acciai, F. Caporali, G. Parodi, and G. Mazza.
He regularly performs solo organ concerts and in ensemble with other instruments. He collaborates with numerous choirs, taking part in concert tours in Italy and abroad (Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, USA, France, Israel). He has composed numerous works for liturgical use and oratorios for soloists, choir, organ, and orchestra.
Formerly Principal Organist of Novara Cathedral (from 1999 to 2025), he is the director of the vocal group Cantores Graduales of the Novara Cathedral, the Corpo Musicale Boffalorese, and the Banda Filarmonica di Oleggio. He’s also a collaborator of the Schola Cantorum S. Gregorio Magno in Trecate.
Since August 1, 2025, he was appointed Maestro di Cappella of the Milan Cathedral by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano.
He teaches Hymnody, Sacred Composition, and Organ Improvisation at the Pontifical Ambrosian Institute of Sacred Music in Milan, and also teaches Music Education at the “E. De Amicis” Comprehensive School in Marcallo (MI). Since 2023, he has been teaching Organ Improvisation in the Advanced Liturgical Music Training Course (COPERLIM), promoted by the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI) and coordinated by the National Liturgical Office.
