Diocesan Missionary Vigil
Celebration of the “Redditio Symboli” and “Missionary Commissioning” presided over by His Excellency the Archbishop (Cathedral opens at 7:30 p.m.)
8.45 – 10.30 p.m.
You can watch the celebration via streaming on this website (www.duomomilano.it) on the Duomo Milano TV YouTube channel.
On the eve of the diocesan celebration of World Mission Sunday (Sunday, October 25), priests, religious, and laypeople who volunteer to proclaim the Gospel in sister churches around the world will receive the missionary mandate from Archbishop Mario Delpini.
During the Vigil, 18-year-olds and other young people are also invited to present their Regola di vita to the Archbishop.
In his message for World Mission Day, Pope Leo writes: “Following the Jubilee Year, I wish to urge the entire Church to continue with joy and zeal in the Holy Spirit on the missionary journey, which requires hearts united in Christ, reconciled communities, and, in everyone, a willingness to collaborate with generosity and trust. As we reflect on our unity in Christ and our unity in mission, let us allow ourselves to be guided and inspired by divine grace, so that the fire of our missionary vocation may be renewed within us and we may move forward together in our commitment to evangelization, in “a new missionary era” in the history of the Church.
[… ] Being a Christian is not primarily about practices or ideas; it is a life in union with Christ, in which we share in his filial relationship with the Father in the Holy Spirit. It means abiding in Christ, like branches on the vine (cf. Jn 15:4), immersed in the life of the Trinity. This union gives rise to mutual communion among believers and is the source of all missionary fruitfulness. Indeed, just as Saint John Paul II taught, “communion represents both the source and the fruit of mission”.
