Angelina and the Milan Duomo: three drawings inspire the new Colibrì collection

Three precious drawings preserved in the Archive of the Veneranda Fabbrica come to life in the new three-cup Colibrì coffee pots: a special collection resulting from a collaboration between Angelina Made in Italy and the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, under license from Mediaset’s Brand Extension Division.

For this project, Angelina had the opportunity to access the archives of the Veneranda Fabbrica, working closely with the Fabbrica to select the historical documents from which to draw inspiration for the design of the three Colibrì.

A project that brings together contemporary design, culture, memory, art and one of Italy’s most iconic rituals: coffee.

The final proposals are three:

1.  “Fragment of a Painted Wall in Pandino Castle” by Paolo Cesa Bianchi (1888)

In June 1888, Paolo Cesa Bianchi, an architect for the Veneranda Fabbrica, created this relief depicting several 14th-century frescoes found in the Visconti Castle in Pandino, with the aim of highlighting their similarities to the floor design of Milan Cathedral. This was particularly useful in the context of the ongoing debate at that time regarding the renovation of the floor.

The coffee maker has a copper-colored water reservoir, while the Archivio design will appear on the collector where the coffee is gathered and on the lid. The handle and knob are white.

 2. “Vault Decorations” by Giuseppe Bertini (circa 1881)

The drawing, executed in tempera and watercolor with gilding, depicts a proposal by Giuseppe Bertini—which was never realized—for a new decoration of the vaults of Milan Cathedral featuring a faux blue starry sky in the Gothic style.

The coffee maker has a light blue water reservoir and lid, while the Archive’s graphic design will appear on the drip tray where the coffee collects. The handle and knob are gray.

3. “Assignment of Work on the Spires” (1833)

The early decades of the nineteenth century were marked by a major campaign to complete the roofing of Milan Cathedral. This effort did not end with the construction of the spires but continued with the meticulous design and subsequent execution of numerous decorative elements. This is the case with this drawing, in which the assignment of the work to be carried out by the various divisions is indicated using different colors and a legend.

The coffee maker has a water reservoir with a marbled finish, just like the lid, while the “Archivio” graphic will be on the drip tray where the coffee collects. The handle and knob are brown.

The star of the collection

Made entirely from recycled and recyclable aluminum, the Colibrì coffee makers combine sustainability, design, and tradition. Compatible with induction cooktops thanks to its special stainless steel base, the coffee maker consists of three sections: the water reservoir, the chamber for ground coffee, and the upper collector where the brewed coffee is collected.

The design is rounded out by the ergonomic handle made of heat-resistant plastic, the practical drip-proof spout, and the safety valve—also made of stainless steel—which ensures safe and comfortable use.
