The Veneranda Fabbrica of the Duomo of Milan hereby announces that its Board of Directors, pursuant to the established convocation customs and methods, met at 10 am today, Tuesday, 18 July 2017, in the current composition established by the presiding authorities and stated by the Ministry of the Interior with D.C.A.C. (Disbanded Corps of Custody Agents) decree n. 48/2017.
Pursuant to article 4 of the Statute of the Veneranda Fabbrica, it is made up of seven members who stay in office for three years, two indicated by the Diocese Ordinary to the Prefect and five appointed by the Minster of the Interior, after having consulted the Archbishop. The President is elected from the seven members.
With this announcement, the current Minister of the Interior, Marco Minniti, has renewed, for a period of three years, the appointments to the Board of Administrators, made up of the following members:
Prof. Simona Beretta
Mons. Prof. Gianantonio Borgonovo
Prof. Ferruccio Resta
Claudio Sala, Attorney
With today’s Board meeting, the appointments thereby have become effective.
The Board of Directors has expressed gratitude and appreciation for the work skilfully and professionally carried out in the past few years by departing Directors Don Carlo Azzimonti, Gigi Martinoli and Sen. Prof. Carlo Secchi.
After the address by outgoing President Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo, the Board of Directors then proceeded to the election of the new President, Fedele Confalonieri.
Extending a heartfelt and warm thank you to Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo, who led the Veneranda Fabbrica from 10 December 2014 up to today, the Directors expressed their best wishes for fruitful work for the new President.
“I’m honoured to assume the role of President of the Board of Directors of the Veneranda Fabbrica of the Duomo of Milan. I will do everything possible to be myself and to represent all Milanese people in this presidency, in collaboration with the other members of the Board of Directors”: these were the first words of the new President, Fedele Confalonieri.
Mons. Gianantonio Borgonovo, outgoing President and Archpriest of the Duomo, stated: “The Board of the Directors of the Veneranda Fabbrica of the Duomo of Milan has surpassed even this important moment in its life, the regeneration of the Board itself. The complexity and the seriousness of that moment are a sign of the importance of the democratic organisation of any type of meeting within a democratic state. Even the Veneranda Fabbrica follows this style, honoured to be led through this criterion, in accordance with the will of the Milanese people, in order to continue to oversee the conservation and the implementation of the beauty and centrality of our Duomo.
I feel I should extend a sincere thank you to the members of the Board of Directors who are ending their participation after many years: in particular, Sen. Prof. Carlo Secchi, Don Carlo Azzimonti, and Gigi Martinoli, respectively present among us starting in 1995, 2004 and 2008. With their presence and dedication, they have allowed the Veneranda Fabbrica to walk a prolific path rich with solace”.
Among the President’s many duties, there are those of legally representing the Veneranda Fabbrica; overseeing the organisation’s general progress; calling and presiding over Board meetings, carrying out resolutions and distributing the payments approved by them; preparing and submitting the estimated budget and the final balance to the Board for approval; transmitting, to the Prefect within the established time frame, the final balance of the previous year and the expected budget of the current year; adopting, when urgent, the necessary measures; and promoting the safeguarding of rights related to the assets of the Cathedral Church administered by the Fabbrica.
In accordance with the current Statute of the Veneranda Fabbrica of the Duomo, all Directors, including the President, will provide their services free of charge, except for the reimbursement of expenses incurred due to their appointed office.
The meeting minutes, once authenticated, are sent to the Prefect of Milan to be forwarded to the Ministry of the Interior for further measures under its jurisdiction.
