Free concert in the Cathedral at 16.30
On Saturday 12th October 2024, Veneranda Fabbrica will have the pleasure of hosting a new musical event starring the Wuppertaler Kurrende German Choir, once again involving the Milanese public in the great choral music tradition.
The concert will start at 4.30 p.m. in Milan Cathedral, with free access from the façade of the Duomo, through the door reserved for the worshippers (extreme north door, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele side), subject to availability.
A special event performed by the oldest male choir of the Evangelical Church of the Rhineland, that will also be present during the Vigil Celebration at 5.30 p.m.
Founded in 1924, the German Wuppertaler Kurrende Choir is based in Wuppertal and has a very long sacred choir tradition characterised by numerous annual performances throughout Germany and recurring concert tours abroad. France, the Netherlands and Poland are, in fact, just some of the places that have recently been able to appreciate the rich repertoire of a cappella works, telling a long narrative from the Renaissance to the modern age, through the music of the greatest composers, such as Bach, Händel, Mendelsohn and Haydn.
Since 2022, the line-up of the Wuppertaler Kurrende has been led by Lukas Baumann, performing in this last musical season 2023-24 at important music festivals also outside Germany, such as in Luxembourg, France and Italy.
The choir has important collaborations with soloists and organists, including Jens-Peter Enk, organist and music director of the Protestant Church of the Rhineland, accompanying the Choir on its European dates.
For the Milan concert, lasting about 45 minutes, the Choir, with its fifty male voices, will perform a prestigious programme of more than a dozen movements, including titles such as My lord, what a morning by Burleigh; Gloria by Nystedt; Toccata D-Dur by Lanquetuit; Sicut cervus by Palestrina and Fantasie C-Dur by Bach.
A special moment where tradition and great choral music will once again echo through the majestic aisles of Milan Cathedral.
