“Dalla terra al cielo”: a concert at Candoglia Marble Quarry

“Dalla terra al cielo”

(From Earth to Heaven)

Saturday 24th August at 5 p.m.

At Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano’s Candoglia Marble Quarry

in Mergozzo (VB)

On Saturday 24th August at 5 p.m. the Candoglia Marble Quarry (located in the Municipality of Mergozzo – Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola) will host an extraordinary concert entitled “Dalla terra al cielo” (from Earth to Heaven), perfomed by Federica Napoletani (soprano), Roberto Olzer (piano) and Marco Rainelli (flute).

This event comes from the close collaboration between “Ecomuseo del Granito di Montorfano”, the Municipality of Mergozzo and the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, aimed at the enhancement of the Ossola territory and its stone and marble resources.

An intense musical moment intended to express the deep connection between man, nature and the infinite.

Alongside compositions inspired by the wonderful natural setting of the Quarry, such as Debussy’s “Syrinx” and Bazzini’s “La ronde des lutins,” the musical program will include pieces connected to the theme of natural beauty and suggestion, such as the charm of the moonlight sung by Faurè, the murmur of water described by Schubert in Primavera, and Tosti’s “L’alba che separa la luce dall’ombra.”

This Franciscan-inspired praise of creation soon becomes a deep prayer, through Faurè’s “Pie Jesu” and the melodies that Morricone composed for the movie “Mission.” A crescendum that finds its fulfillment in the praise of the Virgin, which pervades the pink walls of the Quarry and reaches its highest expression in Bach-Gounod’s “Ave Maria,” Verdi’s “Vergine degli Angeli” and Puccini’s “La Grazia è discesa dal cielo.”

Candoglia Quarry, which will exceptionally serve as the backdrop for the event, is the source of Milan Cathedral. In fact, from this extraordinary location, the precious and rare pink marble destined exclusively for the construction, restoration and maintenance of Milan Cathedral, a symbol of the City in the world, has been extracted since 1387.

The concert benefits from the important collaboration of “Mergozzo Si Nota” and “Mergozzo Archaeological Group”, alongside with Baveno, “Città del Granito” and the UNESCO Sesia Val Grande Geopark, with the support of “Fondazione Comunitaria del VCO Ente Filantropico”. Furthermore, this special musical event is part of the many cultural events from the “La Pietra racconta” festival, (now in its eighth edition) that this year celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Civic Archaeological Museum of Mergozzo and the 10th anniversary of the GranUM museum in the Municipality of Baveno.

On the occasion of the concert, the workshops and the Candoglia Marble Quarry will be open to public starting from 3 p.m. At the same time, a shuttle service will be activated to transport participants to the Quarry in small groups who, while waiting for the show to begin, will be taken on a guided tour of the various work environments where the carved marble elements used to restore the Milan Cathedral are created.

When booking the tickets for the event, you will be asked to select the time slot in which you intend to use the shuttle service.

Ticket purchase (full price € 35 – reduced 12-18 years old € 20) is exclusively online at ticket.duomomilano.it.
