ST. SINEPTUS

15 SeptemberSouth side spire-G50

The sources tell us of two martyrs with the name of Sinetto, one well known by the Greeks, with an uncertain history, whose relics according to the Roman Martyrology were brought to the island of Reichenau, in Germany. The other is instead known by the name of Sinesio or Genesio, whose remains arrived in Treviso from Jerusalem together with those of Saint Eugene. From there they too were then transferred to the island of Reichenau, in the year 830. Only at this point in the story do the two traditions seem curiously to coincide.

Tales of the statue in Dome’s building site:

At the moment there is no certain data on the statue depicting San Sinetto located on the grounds of Spire G50. We don’t know if it is the original version or a remake, and we don’t even know the name of the sculptor who created it. What we know for sure is that originally in place of San Sinetto, the statue of another saint, a certain Sant’Aicardo, was positioned on the top of the spire, which was then moved inside the Cathedral, on one of the pylons of the naves: these are two very similar statues.
