Choral music returns to the Duomo: on June 20, a concert by the Georgia Boy Choir at 4pm

Free concert in Milan Cathedral at 4 pm

On Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 4pm, the Milan Duomo will open its doors to host a suggestive and intense musical event featuring great international choral music. Inside the Cathedral, a special concert will be held by the renowned Georgia Boy Choir, one of the most famous youth vocal ensembles in the United States, currently engaged in the beautiful setting of its “The Alpine Tour 2026.”

The concert, offered by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, is free of charge with open seating subject to availability, and no reservation is required, serving as a special invitation to citizens and visitors to share a moment of high spirituality, culture, and artistic beauty. For the occasion, the public will be able to enter the Cathedral starting from 3.30pm. Admission will be directly from the facade of the Duomo, through the entrance reserved for worshippers (Far North Door, on the side of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II).

Under the imposing Gothic vaults, the extraordinary ensemble of trebles and youth voices will perform under the direction of its Founder and Artistic Director, David R. White, accompanied on the organ by Marco De Vita.

The program chosen for the 4pm  event unfolds as a fascinating itinerary that weaves European sacred polyphony with the choral and expressive tradition from across the ocean. The concert will open in a spirit of praise with the dynamic Psalm 150 by George Talbot, before immersing into the roots of American spiritual and folk music through the famous arrangements of Down In the River to Pray (curated by David R. White himself) and Wade in the Water (by Norman Luboff).

The dialogue with modernity and the 20th-century tradition will be entrusted to the solemnity of Let the People Praise Thee, O God by William Mathias, the lyrical sweetness of Sure On This Shining Night by Morten Lauridsen, and the evocative Beatitudes by Paul Mealor. There will also be a profound tribute to the great classical masters, with the dense vocal dialogue of Wir Eilen Mit Schwachen by Johann Sebastian Bach, the intimate motet O Sacrum Convivium in the arrangement by David Childs, and the world-famous, enveloping Abendlied by Josef Rheinberger. Towards the conclusion, the voices of the Georgia Boy Choir will take on the great English cathedral tradition with the Magnificat in C by Charles Villiers Stanford and the deep spirituality of Let Beauty Be Our Memorial by J.A.C. Redford.

To crown the concert, as a special tribute to the land hosting them and its operatic tradition, the choir will perform the famous “Va, pensiero” from Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco.

The American ensemble’s presence in the Duomo will be completed the following day with an important moment of prayer. On Sunday, June 21, in fact, the Georgia Boy Choir will accompany the Sunday Eucharistic celebration at 12.30pm in the Duomo.Worshippers and visitors wishing to attend this moment of prayer in music will be able to access the Cathedral according to the usual procedures and access points provided for Sunday services.

Founded in 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia, under the leadership of David R. White, the Georgia Boy Choir has rapidly established itself as one of the most brilliant and disciplined realities in the world panorama of all-boy and youth choirs. Maestro White, who boasts over thirty years of international experience in youth choral pedagogy and conducting, leads the institution according to a rigorous philosophy of musical excellence: here, boys from ages 5 to 18 are educated not only in vocal virtuosity, but also in personal growth and mutual respect.

The choir boasts a vast repertoire ranging from Gregorian chant to Renaissance polyphony, up to classical masterpieces and contemporary music. Recognized for its extraordinary tonal clarity, interpretative precision, and great stage presence, the Georgia Boy Choir is regularly invited to collaborate with major symphonic institutions, including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

The ensemble’s international vocation is expressed every year through prestigious summer tours. Throughout its history, the choir has performed in some of the most iconic cathedrals and concert halls in Europe and the world—from St. Paul’s Cathedral in London to Notre-Dame in Paris, and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome—bringing a message of universal beauty everywhere. The double stop at the Duomo of Milan represents one of the most anticipated and culminating moments of the 2026 Alpine tour.

Saturday’s concert will also be streamed live on the “Duomo Milano TV” YouTube channel.
