Patron Saint: Farmers, Harvests, Fields. Symbol: : Shovel

Isidoro was born in Madrid around 1070 to a family of very poor peasants, dedicating his entire life to prayer and work in the fields, donating all his earnings to the neediest. He is also very religious and sometimes interrupts work in the fields to dedicate himself to prayer; for this reason he is accused by his colleagues of absenteeism, and reported to the owner. The latter believes the slanders of the laborers but one day he will change his mind: checking the work done by Isidoro he saw two angels appear who helped Isidoro with his work, while he was busy praying; the owner then understands that the peasant is guided by Divine Intervention. Isidore died around 1130 and is still much loved in Spain today; his remains remain in the cathedral of his hometown.

Tales of the statue in Dome’s buiding site:

Saint Isidore the Farmer was created in 1954 by the sculptor Salvatore Saponaro. The Saint is often depicted in the guise of a common farmer, with the typical costumes of the countryside of the place where he is venerated. Perhaps he was captured in one of the various moments in which he suspended work in the fields to dedicate a few minutes to God. This statue is one of the original ones created in the second half of the 20th century.
