ST. CYPRIEN DE GENOUILLAC

09 DecemberNorth side Spire-G53

Some information about Cyprian has come to us from various sources, such as Gregory of Tours, who said that he had healed lepers and paralytics, naming him in his martyrology on 9 December. We can find other details from the Vitae of Saint Amando and Saint Soro: according to these texts Amando and Soro, together with Cyprian, lived in the first half of the 6th century and placed themselves under the guidance of the abbot of the monastery of Genouillac. According to another source, Cyprian lived in the second half of the 6th century, therefore he was a contemporary of Gregory of Tours, who wrote about him. Saint Cyprian is remembered for his dedication to the sick.

The tales of the statue in Dome’s building site:

Even today there is not much information regarding the creation of this statue, but thanks to various research within the archives of the Cathedral we became aware of a payment in favor of Grazioso Rusca for the creation of the statue of S. Ciriano (later renamed S. Cipriano) dating back to the end of 1811, so the statue could date back approximately to these years.
