Saturday 22 June concert in the Duomo with the music of the Chapel Choir of Robinson College from Cambridge

Free concert in the Cathedral by the English ensemble conducted by Will Sims

Saturday 22 June 2024, a new appointment in the Milan Duomo, in the sign of great music.

At 4.00 p.m., inside the Cathedral, there will in fact be an intense concert by the ‘Chapel Choir of Robinson College’ (University of Cambridge), coming from the United Kingdom and present in the Cathedral thanks to the hospitality of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo and, in particular, its Musical Chapel.

The formation, for the occasion, will be conducted by maestro Will Sims.

The Chapel Choir of Robinson College of the University of Cambridge is an ambitious ensemble of 24-30 singers and volunteers from the college of the prestigious English university. The ensemble sings for two weekly services during term time and has a busy schedule of concerts, recordings, broadcasts and international tours. The Chapel Choir of Robinson College has recorded several CDs: most recently, a selection of works by Vaughan Williams and Benjamin Britten’s ‘A Ceremony of Carols’. Recent tour destinations include Paris, Granada, Innsbruck and Hong Kong, where it gave a concert on national television with international artists Yundi Li and Niu Niu.

The ensemble is currently on tour in Italy, where it will also reach Lake Como.

Since 2022, it has taken part in the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music. During this time, it has performed ten world premieres, eight of which were works specially composed for the ensemble.

Some of these will be performed in the Duomo. The concert features pages from Gerald Finzi’s Lo, the full, final sacrifice, Behold, now praise the Lord by Elliott Park, The Virgin’s Cradle Song by Will Sims, To the End of the Age by Phillip Cooke, All Shall Be Well by Eleanor Haward and a selection of movements from Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem.

The concert, lasting about 45 minutes, is free of charge from the façade of the Duomo, with access through the door reserved for the worshippers (extreme north door, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele side) starting at 3.30 p.m., subject to availability.

The concert will also be streamed live on the Duomo di Milano’s official YouTube channel Duomo Milano Tv.

A unique opportunity to listen to a great choir from the musical tradition of excellence of English colleges.
