Duomo di Milano and Grande Brera for BigBag: an ethical entrepreneurial project that combines culture, sustainability and social inclusion
The first two BigBag capsule collections are on sale at the Duomo Shop and online
BigBag is a sustainable circular entrepreneurship project, born in Milan, which combines culture, slow fashion, sustainability and social inclusion with the aim of generating a positive impact, demonstrating that doing business also means creating value for the community. The basic idea is to transform a “simple bag” into a manifesto of beauty, culture and social responsibility through a circular ecosystem of partners and a Made in Italy production chain.
Founded by the fundraiser Alessandra Pellegrini, BigBag stems from the idea of transforming a “simple bag” into an accessory that represents the possible alternative for those who no longer want to choose between ethics and style, between beauty and responsibility.
Each BigBag is produced through a chain of partners that promotes Made in Italy and inclusivity. All bags are unique because they are made with surplus materials that are transformed into new opportunities: precious fabrics recovered from the furniture and high fashion sectors take on new life thanks to the mastery of small artisans and the manufacturing production of social cooperatives, where workers are people who have experienced fragility.
Based on these premises, BigBag has created its first two capsule collections together with Grande Brera and Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, two institutions that are spokespersons for Milanese cultural identity.
With the capsule collections, BigBag wants to draw attention to and promote a part of the Italian artistic and cultural heritage. In fact, each bag takes inspiration and tells the story of the Gothic architecture and history of the Duomo di Milano, passing through the pink of Candoglia marble and through the nuances of the 135 spires that stand out in the sky; or the masterpieces exhibited in the Pinacoteca di Brera, from the Loggiato, the Botanical Garden, the timeless elegance of Palazzo Citterio to the Braidense Library.
In addition, each bag of the BigBag Duomo Milano collection includes a voucher valid for two complimentary Combo lift tickets for visiting the Monumental Complex of Milan Cathedral.
The Big Bag X Duomo Milano and Grande Brera capsule collections are already available: at the Duomo Shop in Piazza Duomo 14/a and online at www.duomoshop.com; in the bookshops of the Pinacoteca di Brera and Palazzo Citterio, managed by Civita Mostre e Musei, as well as on www.bigbagmilano.com.
Included in the package is a voucher to redeem two bonus tickets to visit the Cathedral, the Terraces by lift, the Duomo Museum and the Church of St. Gottardo in Corte.
From 2 April and throughout Design Week, the collections will be the protagonists of the “Scala Armonica” installation. The work, conceived by Vittorio Peretto, President of Hortensia, and created by Falegnameria Poetica, combining craftsmanship, music and design, tells stories of transformation and creativity taking shape through recycled materials and giving new life to discarded scaffolding wood.
As part of the Fuorisalone 2025 events, on April 10th starting at 7.00 pm, at the Sala delle Colonne (Piazza del Duomo, 14/a), the Duomo Shop will host an opening cocktail open to all, to present to the public and celebrate together the new BigBag project, during which it will also be possible to purchase the Duomo Milano and Grande Brera capsule collections.
