G.Y.S. Special Kids Initiative

With this in mind, the Veneranda Fabbrica is inviting all children to “adopt” one of the Duomo’s 135 spires.

But what exactly are the spires? They are parts of the Duomo’s structure, soaring upwards towards the sky, that help it to withstand the weight of its large vault. The spires are the most distinctive decorative element of the Duomo and are what gives the Cathedral its unique appearance. The spires are rich in ornamentation and statues of all sizes, but these wonderful architectural features are also fragile. The marble in which they are carved is very delicate, which over time tends to deteriorate and this is why the Duomo always needs help. It is therefore very important to conserve the spires, so that future generations will be able to admire the Duomo in all its splendour.

After making a donation to the “Get Your Spire” project, and by contacting the donations office at donazioni@duomomilano.it, the little Donors can give or receive as a gift a set of postcards of the Duomo di Milano’s spires to colour in and customize and, for donations of €50 and above, a nice original donation certificate will also be issued.

The Veneranda Fabbrica invites all the children to interact and play with Milan Cathedral, so as to make also the youngest aware of how wonderful the Monument, symbol of the city, is.
